We’re On Our Way to BEA…!

I’m currently sitting in the Philadelphia airport waiting for our connecting flight to New York City, where Rhoda (general Manager at the Lansing store) and I (promotions coordinator for same) will be attending BookExpo America, the biggest annual book trade show featuring major publishers from all over the world.

This is Rhoda’s fourth time attending BEA, but I am a true newbie and am soooo very excited for everything coming up. It actually starts for us tonight, with a Random House kick-off party with a slew of incredible authors including Gary Shteyngart, Sara Gruen, Steve Berry, Karin Slaughter, Suzanne Brockman, Tess Gerritsen, and Lisa Gardner. But for me, the author I’m most looking forward to chatting up is Justin Cronin, author of the The Passage, the #1 Indiebound pick for June, a doorstopper epic novel that encompasses post-apocalyptic fiction akin to Stephen King’s The Stand as well as the sort of dark vampiric creatures that I loved before bloodsuckers became sparkly. (To give you a hint of how big this book is going to be, movie rights to the unfinished manuscript sold for a reported $1.75 million.) The book releases on June 8 – in the meantime, check out the book’s promotional website here!

Tomorrow we’ll be checking out the American Booksellers Assocation’s “Day of Education” at the conference, as well as hitting the ABA Emerging Leaders Council BEA Party. I’ll try to find time to keep you all posted about this Book Geek’s Dream-Come-True week! 🙂
