Indie Choice Book Awards Announced!

Schuler Books is proud to be a member of the American Booksellers Association, a national non-profit trade association promoting the interests of independent bookstores across the country. Today they announced the winners of the 2011 Indies Choice Book Awards and the E.B. White Read-Aloud Awards, which are chosen through the votes of owners and staff of member stores like Schuler.

According to the ABA:

The winners of the 2011 Indies Choice Book Awards reflect the spirit of independent bookstores nationwide and the IndieBound movement. Book of the Year winners and Honor Award recipients are all titles nominated by ABA member booksellers to the 2010 Indie Next Lists

The 2011 winners are:

Adult Fiction Book of the Year

  • Room, by Emma Donoghue (Little, Brown)

Adult Nonfiction Book of the Year

  • Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand (Random House)

Adult Debut Book of the Year

  • Matterhorn, by Karl Marlantes (Atlantic Monthly Press and El León Literary Arts)

Young Adult Book of the Year

The E.B. White Read-Aloud Awards recognize books that reflect the playful, well-paced language, the engaging themes, and the universal appeal to a wide range of ages embodied by E.B. White’s collection of beloved books. They replace the Indies Choice Book Awards in the categories of Middle Reader and New Picture Book.

The 2011 winners are:
