Happy 50th Anniversay to The Phantom Tollbooth!

I am so giddy that one of my favorite books as a kid is getting the red-carpet treatment for the 50th anniversary of its publication!  On Tuesday (October 25) Random House is releasing two special editions of The Phantom Tollboth by Norton Juster, featuring the original illustrations by Jules Feiffer (could Hollywood take a note?! Not EVERYTHING needs to be redone – the original is usually the best)!!!

I have both editions in my hand, and let me tell you, they are Beautiful!

The 50th anniversary hardcover edition has a new preface by Juster, as well as a section titled “Celebrations of The Phantom Tollbooth,”featuring essays about the book by people like Michael Chabon, Suzanne Collins, and Mo Willems.

But the real plum is the The Annotated Phantom Tollbooth, with notes by Leonard S. Marcus — a GORGEOUS package of an oversized hardcover with glossy pages and expanded pictures, including study-sketches by Feiffer and detailed expansion notes on every page. I can’t tell you how giddy this book-geek is!

Tune in to CBS News Sunday Morning this Sunday, 10/23, at 9:00 am* to see Correspondent Rita Braver interview Norton Juster and Jules Feiffer

(*According to the pub, there is a slight possibility that the date will be changed. If so, please stay tuned for the updated air-date.)
