A Little Music For Your Ears

Since we are Schuler Books & MUSIC, I figured it’d be fun to throw a little music at you from time to time here on the blog. We’ve got some fantastic music buffs on staff, and Steve at our Lansing store has been kind enough to lend us some of his knowledge!

Charles “Packy” Axton was one of the original Stax records saxophone players (his mother and uncle were owners) whose wild, wayward lifestyle lead to his possessing a more intrepid recording career than many of his former Stax counterparts.

“Packy” was an integral member of the Mar-Keys, whose 1961 hit “Last Night” went a long ways towards establishing Stax’s future (and unquestionably brilliant) success.

Like Charlie Freeman, Calvin Newborn and so many other storied and ruggedly independent Memphis artists, Packy is a legend in his own right.

Check out a slick clip:

Visit our Lansing store to check out the Used LP section Steve’s been building up to complement the new albums and CDs we sell, or you can buy online at the Schuler media store!
